Spain has some of the most varied and dramatic landscapes in the world. It’s ideal for walking and trekking, all year round. You can go walking on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Mallorca, in Andalucía or in the Sierra Nevada and Alpujaras, or the lesser known, yet incredibly beautiful, Sierra Di Aitana and Marina Alta, in the south.
In central and northern Spain there are some stunning walking routes along the Picos de Europa and Gredos ranges.
The Sierra Nevada mountain ranges have fertile valleys, forests of oak and chestnut, and high moor lands covered in lavender and broom.
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, has some striking scenery - vast, timeless and tranquil landscapes. The northern, southern and western parts of the island are a different world compared to the busy overcrowded tourist resorts. You’ll see true Mallorquin traditions and architecture in the many small mediaeval villages that are dotted around this fantastic countryside.
The Alpujarra region, south of the Sierra Nevada, is ideal for the cooler weather of spring and autumn. Orgiva, in the western part of the region, is a good starting point. From here, head off towards Contraviesa, where you’ll see some amazing views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
