The Balearic Islands
The Balearics are well known for their beaches, endless sunny days, and of course, nightlife.
Beaches in Mallorca can get quite crowded, especially in Palma de Mallorca. Menorca is always less crowded than Ibiza and Mallorca. Formentera (the small island) is very secluded, with stunning beaches. It’s a great place to get away from the tourists during the crowded summer months.
In Ibiza, Playa d'en Bossa has the most clubs and the longest sandy beach on the island. Playa de Salinas is great for water sports and beach parties. Benirras is famous for its fabulous sunsets and hippy culture. Playa Des Cavallet is an official nudist beach.
The Canary Islands
La Islas Canarias (Canary Islands) are located just off the coast of Africa. They’re famous for year-round sunshine. The beaches can get very crowded though, especially in summer.
In Fuerteventura, Playa de Garcey has an American Star ocean liner shipwreck. Lobos Island, north of the island, is one of the best beaches on the island.
In Lanzarote, El Golfo (The Gulf) is a curious looking black volcanic sand lagoon.
Tenerife has two great beaches, well worth a visit; Playa de las Americas has the most famous beaches on the island. Puerto de la Cruz has the stunning swimming pool complex of Costa de Martiánez, which is home to a huge artificial lake, known as Lago Martiánez. |
