Zaragoza is located at the highest point in the valley of Ebro, in northern Spain. The surrounding landscapes are very impressive; full of picturesque Spanish villages with age-old traditions and very popular customs. The city itself is a modern European city.
Zaragoza was founded over 2000 years ago and houses some of the most stunning monuments in the country. Iberians, Goths, Romans, Arabs, Jews and Christians have all left their mark here. You’ll also see some important Spanish baroque buildings.
The old historic centre or “Casco Viejo” is where you’ll find most of Zaragoza’s historical monuments. The different styles of buildings, palaces and churches all reflect the diversity of Zaragoza’s past history.
One of the main places to worship the Christian Virgin Mary is in the Gothic cathedral of La Seo or the Basilica of El Pila. You’ll find these in the Square of El Pilar.
The Muslim influence can be seen right throughout the city. One of the most important interpretations of the Muslim art (outside Andalucía) can be found here; the Arab palace of the Aljafería. The palace is also home to the Aragonese Parliament.
It’s not all just historical buildings. There are many things to do and see, plenty of cinemas, jazz and flamenco concerts, museums and theatres to keep you occupied. Zaragoza also has a film library where they show classic films every week. The surrounding landscape is stunning all year round and perfect for outdoor activities
"Zaragozanos" (the locals) are very lively outgoing and friendly. They spend a large amount of their time talking in the streets and drinking in bars and outdoor cafés.
Zaragoza is also a student city. The youthful population ensures that the nightlife is dynamic and buzzing, especially at the weekends.
